The wild white desert expanses of our planet's poles have long had an allure for the intrepid explorer.  We can understand the appeal: few to no people, huge expanses of natural nothingness, and some fascinating creatures, landscapes & ecosystems to add to the mix. 

 

Of course there is also the reality of the polar regions feeling the effects of our changing climate more than other areas, which in & of itself, makes for a good reason to experience life inside the arctic & antarctic circles, even if only for a day!
